Room: Ballroom AB
Date: Friday, April 20, 2018
Time: 8:30AM - 9:30AM EDT

Bruce Walker, the Assistant Secretary of the Department of Energy’s Office of Electricity Delivery and Energy Reliability, will discuss the agency’s initiative to modernize the electric grid, enhance the security and reliability of the nation’s energy infrastructure and facilitate recovery from disruptions to the energy supply both domestically and internationally. During his address, Secretary Walker will detail the agencies priorities to develop a strategic assessment of the North American electric grid vulnerabilities followed by targeted efforts to build resilience into grid design and planning.

Gil C. Quiniones, President and Chief Executive Officer of the New York Power Authority, will discuss New York’s efforts to work in partnership with Puerto Rico on power restoration and grid modernization after Hurricane Maria last year devastated the island’s power system and left thousands without electricity. The state sent a delegation of 450 utility workers and 350 trucks to provide a damage assessment and provide initial power restoration. Quiniones will discuss the ongoing efforts to create a grid inclusive of distributed generation resources for Puerto Rico.
