State of Energy Storage in U.S. Markets

Room: North 124
Date: Tuesday, April 16, 2019
Time: 1:00PM - 3:00PM MST

During this pre-conference workshop, get insights into the key market opportunities for energy storage resources in U.S. markets. This workshop builds on the information presented in the Energy Storage 101 workshop, but also stands alone as an in-depth session on U.S. markets and business models for energy storage. Facilitators will explain the market participation models in the seven U.S. organized wholesale (ISO) markets as well as describe important developments at the federal and state level. Material will cover market design features that promote or challenge storage resource participation in the markets from in front of the customer meter and from behind the meter/for demand response, as well as for other distributed energy resources (DERs). Presenters will present case studies involving multiple use applications and hybrid resources, and their implications on the value proposition of energy storage.

Attendees will:

  • come away from this workshop with a better understanding of the market potential for energy storage through value stacking.
  • learn how energy can, or cannot, provide services in U.S. ISO markets
  • be able to identify new market design features being considered--by ISOs, by FERC, and by states--that can influence the value proposition of energy storage

NOTE: Attendance only available with VIP Package and Tuesday One-Day Pass.
