Utilities Reveal Key Lessons on Storage

Room: 306
Date: Thursday, April 19, 2018
Time: 2:00PM - 3:00PM EDT

From municipal utilities to IOUs, utilities are working to integrate energy storage, from distribution grid planning to bulk replacement of gas – but are they ready to reveal lessons learned?  This session will hear perspectives from utilities in Kauai, Los Angeles, Sacramento, and the Northeast.  The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power will present its challenge: A 178 MW energy storage target, the need to mitigate grid reliability issues caused by the interruption of gas supply at Aliso Canyon, and its subsequent front of meter procurement decisions. Sacramento Municipal Utility District will relay Utility integrated DER planning from concept to realization. National Grid will share a utility perspective to simplify the integration of energy storage into the distribution system in Massachusetts, New York, and Rhode Island. This session will also ask utilities to address customer-focused applications, as well as address what utility planning look like when customers have EVs and storage in their homes and businesses.
