Ben Kaun

Program Manager, Energy Storage & Distributed Generation
Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI)

Ben Kaun currently manages the Energy Storage and Distributed Generation research program at EPRI. He has over a decade of experience related to battery and energy storage technology. His responsibilities cover the evaluation of new technology, techno-economic modeling, and the integration of energy storage projects into planning and operations.  In prior roles at EPRI, Ben led the Energy Storage Integration Council (ESIC), which works collaboratively with industry participants to understand gaps related to safe, reliable, and cost-effective integration of energy storage, then work collaboratively to publish tools and guidelines to support energy storage deployments. Ben also led development of the Storage Value Estimation Tool (StorageVET), which continually evolves as a publicly-available web-hosted tool.  He served 2 terms as board member of the Energy Storage Association from 2013-2017.  Prior to EPRI, Ben worked with multiple early stage companies to engineer and commercialize Li-ion battery technology, with focus on vehicle electrification.

Ben earned his Bachelors of Science in Industrial & Enterprise Systems Engineering from the University of Illinois and his Masters of Science in Management Science & Engineering from Stanford University.
